BRAVE/architecture’s 4,600 SF Beach Residence is located in Galveston, Texas. Designed to be used and enjoyed by a family spanning three generations, the house faces the bay side of the island. The house was laid out to make efficient use of the cul-de-sac lot in which it sits. The owners required direct views of the bay from the living and all sleeping areas.
The exterior is clad with composite fiber cement panels and features motorized hurricane shutters and shatter-proof glazing. The house is elevated to meet flooding regulations and sits on a cast-in-place concrete podium. The ground floor consists of a number of amenities including leisure areas and a swimming pool with infinity edge.
The interior of the house’s public areas is open and flexible to accommodate a beach lifestyle, and is laid out to accommodate & display an interesting art collection. The second floor contains all of the public and service areas plus the master suite. The third floor includes the family’s private areas, bedrooms, and the grandchildren’s play areas. In addition to the main house, there is an attached 2,500 SF boathouse, and approximately 2,200 SF of balconies and terraces.
