The 8,400 SF Massad Family Library is housed within the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston. The college wanted a space for learning and research in addition to showcasing Hilton memorabilia and other archives not typically on display – the world-wide Hilton Archives.
The main entry was placed at the intersection of two corridors creating a street-like atmosphere, enabling the library to interact with one of the hotel’s larger reception areas and ballrooms. The design includes graphic displays of Conrad Hilton throughout. Lounge areas, group rooms, and an information desk provide a semi-informal setting where students and visitors work and collaborate. The common area incorporates natural light from one of the corridors through frosted and transparent glazed openings at the perimeter and interior walls. A workroom and office for the Center’s archivist and staff is located adjacent to the common area.
