The City of Houston Public Library hired our firm to create an area dedicated to teen activities within their existing libraries. Rather than simply using existing space and decorating it with a teen motif, the client requested a completely new architectural interior design different and separated from the rest of the library’s spaces. This project was the first of its kind within the Houston Public Library system.
Activities within the teen centers involve dedicated time slot for studying and doing homework, followed by relaxation time playing computer games or using a library-provided Wii system. As for the general areas of the libraries, the new space has shelving for books, magazines, and other reference materials. Because of the potential noise level generated within the new space, the areas are enclosed in glass to remain visible from the circulation desk and other areas.
