Crooms House

Info

The 2,800 SF Crooms House is in the Rice Military neighborhood in Houston, Texas. The house makes very efficient use of interior space to accommodate five bedrooms. The living areas open to the east while the service areas are located on a narrow strip along the west side of the building, blocking undesired western sun exposure.

Perhaps subconsciously responding to the owners’ nautical pursuits, the house is very efficiently laid out and placed on the site in direct response to its orientation, maximizing use of the limited lot space. The exterior is finished with cement stucco and galvanized sheet metal following the neighborhood’s tradition.

The house, completed in November 1996, has been featured in several publications including the Houston Architectural Guide – Second and Third Editions, 2000 and 2012, published by the AIA.
