This project involved the replacement of the Administration Wing’s structural slab and the corresponding 4,300 SF interior renovation within the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. The renovation is comprised of a total demolition of the existing reception area, offices, and break room.
The challenge of the new plan was to create space within the same amount of square footage. Where the previous space had more shared offices, this design reorganized the administration wing by creating as many private offices as possible. By moving the location of the required fire separation, the office doors are glazed to let natural light reach the suite’s interior corridor. The office doors were also strategically placed to create long stretches of wall for the school’s art collection. Highlighting the reception area is the undulating wood cloud system inspired by, and patterned after, Beethoven’s Für Elise.
